Industrial Excellence
Goa Polymer manufactures Bronze Filled PTFE in rod, sheet, tube, and custom-machined forms from our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in Maharashtra, India. With 40–60% bronze powder content, this grade combines PTFE’s low friction and chemical stability with bronze’s high compressive strength, thermal conductivity, and wear resistance — making it the first choice for bearings, bushings, thrust washers, piston rings, and hydraulic seals under sustained mechanical load.

Bronze Filled PTFE is produced by uniformly blending bronze powder (typically 40% or 60% by weight) into a PTFE matrix before sintering. The bronze particles form a load-bearing network within the soft PTFE, increasing compressive strength and thermal conductivity while the PTFE binder maintains low friction and prevents metal-to-metal contact between the part and its mating surface.
The result is a material that can carry loads three to five times higher than virgin PTFE, dissipates heat from the bearing surface faster, and resists deformation under sustained compression — the three main failure modes of plain PTFE in bearing and sealing applications. At Goa Polymer, Bronze Filled PTFE is sintered and machined in-house, with dimensional checks on all finished parts before dispatch.

Compressive strength up to 150 MPa (60% grade) — three to five times higher than virgin PTFE. Handles sustained bolt loads, press-fit assembly, and high bearing pressures without permanent deformation.

Thermal conductivity 3–5× higher than virgin PTFE. Bronze particles conduct frictional heat away from the bearing surface, reducing operating temperature and extending component life in high-speed or high-load applications.

Coefficient of friction of 0.10–0.20 (dry). Operates without oil or grease in clean environments. The PTFE matrix continuously transfers a thin film to the mating surface, preventing galling and reducing wear on both parts.

Bronze reinforcement significantly reduces cold flow under sustained compressive load — the primary failure mode of plain PTFE bearings and thrust washers. Components maintain their press-fit and dimensional accuracy longer.

Bronze Filled PTFE machines cleanly on CNC lathes and mills. Turns, bores, and threads to tight tolerances (±0.05 mm achievable) without burring — producing finished bearings and bushings directly from rod or tube stock.

Lower coefficient of thermal expansion than virgin PTFE. Components maintain press-fit and running clearances across a wider operating temperature range — important for precision bearing housings and piston assemblies.
⚠️ Chemical resistance limitation: Bronze Filled PTFE is not suitable for service with acids (HCl, H₂SO₄, HNO₃), oxidising media, chlorine, or seawater. The bronze particles corrode in these environments, causing the material to swell and lose mechanical integrity. For aggressive chemical service, use Glass-Filled PTFE or virgin PTFE instead.
Bronze Filled PTFE is supplied as standard stock shapes for in-house machining, or as finished components machined to your drawing. All forms are available in 40% and 60% bronze grades.
For machining bushings, bearings & thrust rings
The most common stock form. Machined on a CNC lathe into bushings, flanged bearings, thrust washers, and piston rings. Straight-bore and flanged profiles are the most common finished shapes.
For flat seals, thrust pads & wear plates
Cut into flat thrust washers, wear plates, and sealing pads. Also used for sliding bearing surfaces in guide rails and linear motion systems where a flat low-friction surface is required.
For thin-wall bushings & sleeve bearings
Pre-bored tube eliminates the inner-diameter roughing cut, reducing machining time for bushing production. Thicker wall tubes are used for press-fit sleeve bearings in pump housings and gearboxes.
Bushings, thrust washers, piston rings & more
Finished components machined to your drawing — no further machining needed on receipt. Common finished forms include straight bushings, flanged bushings, split bushings, thrust washers, piston rings, and valve seats.

Bronze Filled PTFE is used wherever a component must carry a high mechanical load, operate dry or with minimal lubrication, and transfer heat away from the sliding surface. These are the primary application areas.

Piston rings, rod seals, and guide rings in hydraulic cylinders. Handles high contact pressure and operates dry between stroke cycles without galling on the cylinder bore.

Sleeve bearings, thrust washers, and wear rings in pump housings. The high PV rating (0.10 MPa·m/s) and thermal conductivity handle the heat generated at high shaft speeds.

Gearbox bushings, suspension pivot bearings, and steering column bearings. Operates dry, resists engine oils and transmission fluids, and reduces NVH (noise, vibration, harshness).

Actuation system bushings, control surface bearings, and landing gear pivot liners. Certified material grades available; operates across the full thermal range of aircraft environments.

Bridge expansion bearings, crane slewing ring liners, and press tool guides. The 60% bronze grade carries structural loads that would crush virgin PTFE within hours.

Conveyor guide rails, linear slide bearings, and rotary table bushings in machinery where oil lubrication is impractical, undesirable, or a contamination risk.
Choosing the wrong PTFE grade for a bearing or sealing application is the most common cause of premature component failure. This table compares the four main filled PTFE grades across the properties that determine service life.
